YouTube dictation practice — NoaLingua
In short
Use a short YouTube caption line to test what you actually hear. NoaLingua dictation hides the text, pauses for your answer and compares the words after you submit.
Steps
- Open a YouTube video with usable captions and choose a short spoken passage.
- In the NoaLingua menu choose Dictation, or use U when the video has focus.
- Type what you heard. Replay the line before revealing the answer if necessary.
- Submit with Enter and inspect missing or incorrect words before continuing.
Try this exercise
Try a sentence containing a small word such as “could” or “have”. Notice whether you missed its sound or its meaning.
Watch out for
Automatic captions can be wrong. Check the audio before treating every mismatch as your own mistake.
Check your result
Replay the sentence without text and write the difficult words correctly.
A manageable session
Choose one short passage whose overall meaning you can follow. Decide what you want to practise before turning on a feature: hearing words, recalling their meaning or producing a sentence. Keep a note of the difficult moment instead of collecting every unfamiliar word. Stop when you can explain that passage without looking at its translation.
Come back to it
In your next session, try the same passage before opening the answer. If it is still difficult, shorten it and repeat the troublesome part. If it feels easy, use the expression in a new sentence or move to another passage. This is a suggested routine, not a promise of a particular learning speed.
Translation follows your chosen settings and may require an online provider. A printed exercise or exported subtitle file does not download the source video. Use material you are entitled to access and keep a backup before changing your vocabulary collection.
