Set up Chrome’s offline translator — NoaLingua
In short
When an online translation allowance ends, check whether Chrome supports an on-device model for your chosen pair. Downloading that model can provide translation without the online quota.
Steps
- When offered, choose Set up Chrome’s translator from the translation notice or page menu.
- Confirm the source and target languages and allow the required model download.
- Keep the browser open until setup completes.
- Test a short sentence with the supported pair before attempting a long article.
Try this exercise
Translate a familiar sentence and compare the meaning; then test a paragraph with one ambiguous word.
Watch out for
Supported language pairs and Chrome availability vary. Offline translation does not make the video or all optional AI services work offline.
Check your result
A supported pair translates your test text after its model is ready.
A manageable session
Choose one short passage whose overall meaning you can follow. Decide what you want to practise before turning on a feature: hearing words, recalling their meaning or producing a sentence. Keep a note of the difficult moment instead of collecting every unfamiliar word. Stop when you can explain that passage without looking at its translation.
Come back to it
In your next session, try the same passage before opening the answer. If it is still difficult, shorten it and repeat the troublesome part. If it feels easy, use the expression in a new sentence or move to another passage. This is a suggested routine, not a promise of a particular learning speed.
Translation follows your chosen settings and may require an online provider. A printed exercise or exported subtitle file does not download the source video. Use material you are entitled to access and keep a backup before changing your vocabulary collection.
