Add subtitles to a website video — NoaLingua

In short

Use your own SRT or WebVTT track on a video page outside YouTube. The newer generic-video import connects timed text, translation and word cards.

Steps

  1. Open the page containing the matching video.
  2. Choose Your subtitle file for this video in the extension menu.
  3. Select the file, inspect its preview and apply it.
  4. Adjust a fixed offset with the timing controls; test an early and a late line.

Try this exercise

On a course video, load a matching caption file and check two lesson definitions before taking notes.

Watch out for

A subtitle file does not unlock the video. One offset cannot fix a different edit or progressively drifting timings.

Check your result

Both test lines match the audio and you can open a word card.

A manageable session

Choose one short passage whose overall meaning you can follow. Decide what you want to practise before turning on a feature: hearing words, recalling their meaning or producing a sentence. Keep a note of the difficult moment instead of collecting every unfamiliar word. Stop when you can explain that passage without looking at its translation.

Come back to it

In your next session, try the same passage before opening the answer. If it is still difficult, shorten it and repeat the troublesome part. If it feels easy, use the expression in a new sentence or move to another passage. This is a suggested routine, not a promise of a particular learning speed.

Translation follows your chosen settings and may require an online provider. A printed exercise or exported subtitle file does not download the source video. Use material you are entitled to access and keep a backup before changing your vocabulary collection.
