Specific to Finnish

Things that are only true of Finnish in NoaLingua

  • Finnish has no grammar pack, and the reason is mundane: UniMorph publishes Finnish across two files instead of one, and the downloader assumes one. It was left out deliberately rather than shipping half the data silently.
  • Finnish does have a kaikki dictionary, so definitions and IPA work — but its pack size has never been measured.
  • Finnish is covered by the punctuation model.
  • For a language this heavily inflected, the missing grammar pack is the single most noticeable gap in NoaLingua’s coverage.

Common questions about NoaLingua

Does NoaLingua work for Finnish?

Finnish is one of the 28 languages in the learning and translation selectors, and 5 of its ten capability axes are verified. The table on this page shows exactly which ones — including the ones that are documented as absent.

Can I get grammar tables for Finnish?

No. A Finnish dataset exists but upstream splits it across two files, and the downloader assumes one. Deliberately left out rather than silently fetching half the data. Everything else — definitions where available, examples, saving and review — works normally.

Does Finnish work offline?

Yes, once the packs finish downloading. Expect to leave the extension running 15 to 30 minutes after choosing your languages.

What does “not documented” mean in the table?

That we have not verified it ourselves, so we will not claim it either way. It is not the same as “no”. Several of those columns depend on data Chrome owns and does not publish per language.
