Feature
Add your own subtitle file to a web video
Load SRT or VTT, correct its timing and study it with the full NoaLingua overlay
In short
On a page with a video, NoaLingua can load your own SRT or VTT file, preview it, place it over the video and remember it for that page. You can shift every line earlier or later in half-second or one-second steps, then use translation, word lookup and saving as with native captions.
Fit
Who Your own subtitle files is for
Choose it for the workflow it actually supports, not for a promise the product does not make.
Best for
- Learners who already have a legal SRT or VTT for a course, news clip or web video with no readable captions.
- People who need a quick whole-track timing correction before using translation and word lookup.
Not the right fit for
- People looking for subtitle downloads, automatic transcription or a line-by-line subtitle editor.
- Protected players that do not expose a usable HTML video element to the page.
How to use it
How to use Your own subtitle files in NoaLingua
- 1

Use the toolbar popup or the corner menu and choose Your subtitle file for this video.
- 2
Select an SRT or VTT file
Review the preview, then attach it. The file stays on your computer.
- 3
Correct the timing if needed
Move all lines earlier or later in 0.5-second or 1-second steps until speech and text agree.
Mechanism
Why NoaLingua behaves this way
Why this works on more sites
A generic page may have a playable video but no caption track the browser exposes. Supplying your own timed file gives NoaLingua the missing text and timestamps without asking the site for them.
The overlay then uses the same sentence, translation and word-card pipeline as other supported videos.
Why the file is remembered per page
Subtitle timing belongs to a specific video. Remembering the attachment by page lets it return where it makes sense without applying the same file to unrelated media.
The source file remains local; attaching it is not an upload to NoaLingua.
Common questions about NoaLingua
Which formats work?
SRT and WebVTT (.vtt) subtitle files.
Can I fix subtitles that start too early?
Yes. Shift the whole track earlier or later in half-second or one-second increments.
Will the file return next time?
Yes. NoaLingua remembers the subtitle file association for that page.
Is the subtitle file uploaded?
No. It is read locally in your browser.
