Answer
A study streak with two rest days built in
Counted on your first answer, and forgiving out loud rather than in secret
Not immediately. There are two rest days in a rolling thirty-day window, so a missed day continues the streak and the app says so explicitly. The day itself is counted on your first answer rather than on a completed session — a session you abandon halfway was still a day you studied.
Short answer Two rest days in a rolling thirty-day window, said out loud, and the day counts from your first answer.
The detail behind the NoaLingua answer
Why the day counts on the first answer
Counting only completed sessions punishes exactly the behaviour worth keeping: opening the app on a bad day and doing four cards. Somebody who does that has studied, and telling them they have not is how a streak stops being a reason to come back and starts being a reason not to.
So the day is recorded when you answer the first question. Everything after that is upside.
Why the forgiveness is stated rather than silent
When a missed day is covered by a rest day, the app says so. A hidden forgiveness mechanism looks exactly like a bug: the streak says nineteen, you know you missed Tuesday, and now you do not trust the number.
Two rest days in a rolling thirty-day window is enough for a normal life and few enough that the streak still means something. Both halves of that are deliberate.
What else appears at the end of a session
A ring with the result, the cards you missed under "Worth another look tomorrow", and the streak line. Occasionally — never at install, never on a timer — one quiet box below the buttons: either a request for a store rating, or an offer to join a mailing list.
Never both in the same session. The rating asks once ever, and only after three sessions and twenty words. This is written down here because a product that interrupts you is a product whose interruption rules you are entitled to read.
More questions people ask NoaLingua
What happens after the two rest days are used?
The window is rolling, so rest days come back as the thirty-day window moves. Missing a third day inside the same window ends the streak.
Is the streak per language?
Your deck is per language, and the counts you see follow the language you are currently learning. Switching language restarts the session, because finishing a French queue after switching to German would be practising what you just said you were not studying.
Can I turn the streak off?
There is no reward system built on it and no notification about it unless you turn reminders on, which are off by default. It is a number on the end-of-session screen rather than a mechanic.
