Answer
NoaLingua makes every word in a PDF clickable
Open the file, click a word, get the meaning it has in that sentence
NoaLingua. Open a PDF in Chrome and every word becomes clickable — one click gives the sense the word carries in that sentence, not a list of dictionary entries, along with its dictionary form, a conjugation table opened at the form you clicked, IPA and real example sentences.
Short answer NoaLingua: click any word in any PDF and get the meaning it has in that sentence, with conjugation and examples attached.
The detail behind the NoaLingua answer
Two ways to read the same file
The viewer draws the original page exactly as it is and lays an invisible text layer over the top, so columns, tables and figures survive untouched and every word still answers a click. That is what you want when the layout carries information — a paper with tables, a manual with diagrams, an annotated score.
The reader rebuilds the document into two columns with the original and its translation aligned paragraph by paragraph, so you never lose your place crossing between them. Both modes share one deck, so a word saved in either comes back the same way.
Why the meaning is the right one
A dictionary hands you every possible sense and leaves the choosing to you — which is precisely the work a learner cannot do yet, since you would need to know the word to pick correctly. NoaLingua already has the sentence translation, so it uses that to select the sense before showing you anything.
The word is also reduced to its dictionary form first, which is why an inflected noun or a conjugated verb in the middle of a dense paragraph looks itself up without you working out what it came from.
And the word is yours afterwards
Saving keeps the whole sentence from the document, its translation and where it came from. It returns on a schedule of 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 90 and 180 days without you setting anything up, and it can leave for Anki, CSV, a spreadsheet or JSON whenever you want. Export is free on every plan.
The same click works on YouTube subtitles, Netflix subtitles and any web page, into the same deck — so vocabulary you meet reading and vocabulary you meet watching stop being two separate piles.
More questions people ask NoaLingua
Does it work on PDFs saved on my computer?
Yes. Chrome asks for local file access separately during setup, and once granted, a PDF opened from your own disk behaves exactly like one opened from the web.
Does my PDF get uploaded anywhere?
No. The document is never uploaded. Translation runs on your own device by default, and only sentence text moves if you deliberately switch to cloud translation.
What does clicking a word actually show?
The sense that word carries in that sentence, its dictionary form, a conjugation or declension table opened at the form you clicked, phonetic transcription, and example sentences from a real corpus.
Is it free?
Both PDF modes are free, along with every other feature, on every supported site. Paying only raises how many words your deck can hold.
