# Learn French with YouTube using NoaLingua

What to watch, what makes French hard, and how to turn an episode into progress

You can watch French with the original and the translation together, click any word to see what it means here and how the verb is conjugated, do the same inside French articles and PDFs, repeat lines aloud and get told which words did not land, and keep every sentence you saved on a schedule that brings it back. Free, no account, one extension.

## What French looks like on screen

French is the language where reading and hearing come apart most violently. Liaison and elision mean four written words arrive as a single sound, so people who read French comfortably stall completely on audio. Seeing the line written while you hear it is the bridge — you finally see the words your ear could not separate.

## The part that actually stops people

The endings are silent and they are doing the grammar. `Parle`, `parles` and `parlent` are one sound and three different forms, so the audio gives you nothing to work with. A conjugation table opened at the form on screen is worth more in French than in almost any other language, because there is no acoustic clue to fall back on.

## What to watch in French

French television leans on dialogue rather than action, which is excellent input and unforgiving for beginners. Dubbed animation is the gentlest way in — recorded in a booth, articulated for clarity, and free of the mumbled delivery that defeats people in French cinema. Move to live-action series once you are following most of a scene.

## Why YouTube for French

French YouTube is full of long-form talking: interviews, essays, cooking. Ideal material, because the vocabulary of one channel repeats until it sticks. The full transcript is available from the moment the video opens, so you can export an entire interview as a bilingual document and reread it away from the screen.

## A routine you could start tonight

Watch a scene twice. The first time read only the French line and let it wash over you; the second time read both. Click the three or four words that broke the sentence, say the line aloud once, and let the extension score it. Ten minutes of that beats an hour of passive watching.

Everything you click is one keystroke from becoming a card that keeps the sentence, the title and the exact moment — and [comes back before you forget it](https://noalingua.com/features/vocabulary-review/). The same click works on [any web page](https://noalingua.com/features/learn-from-websites/) and [inside any PDF](https://noalingua.com/features/bilingual-pdf-translator/), into the same French deck.

## Learning French with YouTube: common questions

### Can I really learn French from YouTube?

From YouTube plus a way of working with it, yes. Watching alone rarely moves anybody, because the words wash past. What changes it is being able to see both languages at once, click what stops you, and have those exact sentences come back to you a few days later — which is the loop this is built around.

### What if my French is still weak?

Start with material you have already seen, so the plot is not competing for your attention, and click only the words that break the sentence rather than every unknown one. Ten saved words an evening compounds faster than an hour of stopping and starting.

### Does it cost anything?

No. Dual subtitles, clickable words, both PDF modes, shadowing, all the practice formats and every export format are on the free plan. There is no account to create and nothing to cancel.

### Can I take my French words with me?

Yes, at any time and on any plan. Export to Anki with video stills and the speaker’s own audio, to CSV, to an editable spreadsheet, or your whole profile as a single file. The deck is yours and it lives on your own machine.
