# Language Reactor alternatives, and where NoaLingua fits

Language Reactor alternatives, by the reason you are leaving

Language Reactor is a capable default, so people leave it for specific reasons rather than general dissatisfaction. Work out which reason is yours first: the shortlist that fixes a missing streaming platform is not the shortlist that fixes wanting your vocabulary stored on your own machine.

**Disclosure:** NoaLingua is our product, and it is one of the options below. NoaSolutions earns money when people buy it. Every option here carries an honest reason not to pick it, including ours. [Editorial policy](https://noalingua.com/editorial-policy/).

Research method

## How NoaLingua assembled this shortlist

This is a fit-based shortlist, not a score table. Options are ordered by the reason a reader is switching, and each competitor link goes to that product's own page.

No logged-in competitor accounts were used for this revision. Product positioning comes from official pages; the reason for and against each option is editorial judgement. For auditable feature rows and research dates, use the linked head-to-head comparison.

**Criteria used**

- supported content and devices
- lookup, capture and review workflow
- account and data model
- free and paid boundaries
- speaking practice and stated limits

## Why are you leaving?

The right alternative depends entirely on this. A shortlist that fixes missing platforms is not the shortlist that fixes wanting your data stored locally, and a page that ranks tools without asking is guessing.

| If this is your reason | Look at |
| --- | --- |
| You want more streaming platforms than YouTube and Netflix | Trancy or Migaku |
| You want to study on a phone as well as a laptop | Migaku |
| You want speaking practice, not just subtitles | NoaLingua |
| You want no account, with your data on your own machine | NoaLingua |
| You mostly read rather than watch | Immersive Translate |

The shortlist

## The options, with a reason against each

01

### NoaLingua our product

No account, local data, and everything in one deck

**Evidence:** first-hand product source and captures

Dual subtitles on YouTube and Netflix, clickable words on any page and inside PDFs, shadowing with pronunciation feedback, and 30 practice formats — all feeding one deck stored in your own Chrome profile. Every feature works on the free plan.

**Against it:** Desktop Chrome only, no mobile app, and a 0.2 release with a very small user base. If maturity matters to you, that is a real reason to choose something else.

02

### Trancy

Breadth of platforms

**Evidence:** official product source; not a logged-in hands-on test

Positioned around a considerably wider set of named streaming and course platforms than anything else in this category, plus full-page translation and connected AI features.

**Against it:** Most of that breadth depends on an account and on paid tiers with allowances. We could not read their pricing page on the date we checked, so verify the current terms yourself.

03

### Migaku

Mobile, and serious sentence mining

**Evidence:** official product source; not a logged-in hands-on test

A multi-app ecosystem rather than a single extension. Its own FAQ states the browser extension supports Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Rakuten Viki and Animelon, and that the iOS and Android apps currently support YouTube.

**Against it:** A larger system with more setup, and a subscription for the whole ecosystem rather than for one tool.

04

### Immersive Translate

Reading across many browsers and devices

**Evidence:** official product source; not a logged-in hands-on test

Built for translating websites, documents and video across a far wider range of browsers than anything else here, including Firefox and Safari.

**Against it:** It is a translation tool rather than a study tool. No retention loop, no spaced review, no speaking practice.

## Common questions about NoaLingua

What is the closest free alternative to Language Reactor?

It depends what "free" needs to cover for you. NoaLingua makes every feature available on its free plan and limits how many words your deck holds instead. Other tools split free and paid differently — compare the specific constraint that would affect your own routine rather than the word itself.

Which alternative works without an account?

NoaLingua is designed without one — no registration and no sign-in at any point, with cards stored in your Chrome profile and a file export for backup or transfer. We have not verified the account requirements of every other product here, so check before assuming.

Can I keep using the Language Reactor keyboard layout?

In NoaLingua, yes. There is a Language Reactor preset alongside the default layout, and every player key can also be rebound individually.
